Jul 09, 2025
A punctured sleeping mat can be a real annoyance, especially when you're out in nature and need some comfort. Luckily, a small hole is easy to fix once you know what to do. Below you’ll find a simple four-step plan to get your mat back in shape.
How to repair a sleeping mat in 4 steps
1. Find the leak
Fully inflate the mat and listen or feel for escaping air. Can’t locate it? Submerge the mat gently in water and watch for air bubbles.
2. Clean and dry the surface
Once you've found the puncture, dry the area thoroughly. Make sure there's no dirt, sand, or grease left, the patch won’t stick otherwise.
3. Apply the patch
Use a suitable repair patch or adhesive circle. Press it firmly over the hole and make sure no air is trapped underneath. Then let it dry completely according to the repair kit’s instructions.
4. Test and reuse
Inflate the mat again and check if the leak is sealed. If everything looks good, you're ready to use it again.
